CHARACTER BACKGROUND:
Elizabeth Ross was the only child of Air Force General Thaddeus Ross and his wife Karen Lee Ross. Her father, nicknamed Thunderbolt, had wanted a son, and let his displeasure at having a daughter be blatantly obvious. He was extremely strict with his daughter, at some points bordering on abusive. Betty was loved and nurtured by her mother, but sadly Karen was killed in a car accident when Betty was in her early teens. Thunderbolt send Betty to a boarding school rather than attempt to raise her on his own.
Betty was extremely bright as a child, excelling in science, and taking a keen interest in biology. She graduated from high school early, and was accepted to Harvard, where she met fellow student Bruce Banner. The two shy students struck up a friendship that eventually blossomed into a romance. Thunderbolt took an instant dislike to Bruce and made sure they knew just how much he disapproved. Betty graduated with her doctorate in molecular biology and accepted a research position at Culver University in Virginia, as did Bruce.
The two were recruited to assist her father in his military research, trying to create a new super-soldier serum, this time using dangerous gamma radiation. Bruce was so confident in the work they were doing that he volunteered to be the test subject and exposed himself to a massive dose of gamma radiation. Unfortunately, the experiment went horribly wrong resulting in the birth of the Hulk. During his first rampage, Betty was gravely injured by the Hulk and she ended up being hospitalized for a great length of time. Bruce became a fugitive of the U.S. government and fled to South America. The program she and Bruce had been part of was shut down by the military and Betty was only able to smuggle out a single flashdrive containing years of their research. Betty lost contact with him for five years, and her relationship with her father grew incredibly strained as a result.
She eventually started dating Dr. Leonard Samson, and the two moved in together. Betty slowly rebuilt her life and career post-Bruce and post-Hulk, focusing more on her teaching at the university and for awhile she led a mostly normal existence. Of course, Bruce Banner came back into her life, bringing back the wealth of emotions she'd kept buried for so long. She found herself harboring the fugitive in her home, sharing what data she had saved with him in hopes of being able to find a cure for his condition. It wasn't until this point that she witnessed the full spectrum of the Hulk's power when the military attempted to take him out on the college campus. During the ensuing melee, the Hulk took Betty and fled with her into the Smokey Mountains.
After the Hulk episode ended, Betty and Bruce found that they were both fugitives from the military. A team led by Betty's father, Thunderbolt Ross and Emil Blonsky (The Abomination) tracked the pair to the New York City laboratory of Dr. Samuel Sterns, a colleague of theirs who believed he might have a cure for Bruce. Unfortunately, the military agents were able to catch up to the pair and arrest them. It wasn't until the Abomination went on his own rampage through NYC that Bruce was set loose to battle his enemy and prove that the Hulk wasn't entirely evil. In the confusion, Betty and General Ross were in a helicopter crash, and the Abomination attacked them. They were saved at the last possible moment by the Hulk, and seconds before the Hulk could kill the Abomination, Betty yelled at him to stop. The Hulk ultimately showed mercy to his foe and Betty was able to reach the human Bruce Banner trapped within him before he fled New York, leaving her alone again.
CHARACTER PERSONALITY:
Betty is soft-spoken and well mannered. Generally introverted, she's studious and sometimes shy, though with her closest friends she demonstrates a good sense of humor and great compassion. She is extremely intelligent and observant, and her work is very important to her. She is dedicated to researching gamma radiation, and though this passion has caused her much personal tragedy and strife she is considered a leading expert in the field.
Her relationship with her father is a source of conflict in her life. His constant rejections have weighed on her throughout her life, leading her to push herself further academically to make up for the shortcomings he perceives in her. Even so, she has never had a functional relationship with him and the two continue to butt heads into their adult lives. This has also led her to be mistrusting of the government and other authority figures. She thrives in situations where she is on the same level as everyone else and is open to collaboration.
The conflict with Thunderbolt has also shaped her relationships with men. With Bruce, she found an intellectual equal, and a man whose quiet demeanor was much like her own and she loves him deeply despite years of separation. The Hulk's first rampage left Betty severely injured and hospitalized for months. Her body was broken, but so was her heart. She was left wondering where Bruce was, not knowing if he was alive or dead, and this began to take an emotional toll on her. She keeps a close guard on her emotions, not wanting to give too much away, not wanting to get hurt again. No one will ever understand her the way Bruce does, and while she at least takes comfort in the fact that he is alive and in the memories they made together, she still tries to protect that part of her past and keep it to herself.
The revelation that Bruce is the Hulk has not changed her feelings for him, but rather strengthened her commitment to understanding the nature of his powers, and if possible finding a cure for him. Her relationship with Leonard Samson is somewhat different, however. Leonard is a stable, safe influence on her life, someone she can talk to and confide in. He's the friend she's always needed, and at times he's more of a psychiatrist to her than a lover. Still, both are stark contrasts from the controlling, demanding father she grew up with.
She has a tendency to come off as passive or weak at times, accepting of her situation rather than proactive about changing things. That isn't to say she won't stick up for herself: she absolutely will. But she isn't one for conflict. She's a calming influence on those around her, a peacemaker, and she is content to be in the background. She will avoid drawing attention to herself if possible. Attention is an unnecessary distraction from her work, and her work is her priority.
WORLD: Betty's world is very similar to modern day Earth which the main distinction being some advances in technology and science that have yet to be made in the real world. There is also the presence of superheroes, namely Iron Man.

Why go through all the trouble of kidnapping her if she was just going to be handed a phone and shown the door? Didn't her captors know who she was, know how valuable a bargaining chip she could be? Between her father and his egotistical reasons for wanting to protect her and her own knowledge of top secret government research programs, she could easily fetch a lofty ransom or be used as a pawn in any number of ways. What good was she if she was just being shown the door and sent on her way? What was the point of bringing her here in the first place?
It wasn't until she stepped through the doors and onto the City sidewalk that she realized her mind had been going wild with these conclusions. She had to tell herself to knock it off and be appreciative for the small mercy that whatever force had brought her here didn't realize what she'd assumed was blatantly obvious. If whoever controlled the machine thought she was just some stray civilian, she would happily blend into the masses of pedestrians and be on her way, hopefully back to Virginia before nightfall.
Idly, she examined the items she'd been given before exiting the building. Dog tags and a modified cellphone. Betty wasn't the most technically minded individual, but even she could tell there was something off about this phone. It looked more advanced than anything she'd ever encountered, and considering her line of work, that was actually saying a lot. Deciding that a minute or two could be devoted to calling for assistance, she ducked into the nearest alcove and attempted to dial up Leonard's number.
Of course, the communicator wasn't meant for such purposes, and instead of dialing out long distance to Virginia, the device began to record her via the tiny camera on the front.
"Dammit," she muttered, brow furrowing as she pressed another button. It was only then that she noticed the little red light indicating she was being filmed. Realizing that she was possibly transmitting on a monitored frequency (she'd been kidnapped, after all) she forced herself to remain calm and proceeded to explain her present situation.
FIRST PERSON:
[A woman appears on screen. She is clearly confused and agitated, though she's obviously struggling to keep herself check. The tone of her voice is calm, but each word spoken crisply.]
What is the meaning of this? Is this some kind of government experiment? Some sort of test? Another secret program no one's supposed to know about? I didn't consent to being a test dummy. I didn't agree to participate.
[There's a slight pause and her brow furrows. She seems hesitant to even suggest this:]
Did the General arrange this? Is this some sort of punishment for helping Bruce? If this is his doing, I need to speak with him. Now.
[It seems as if she's going to say something else, but she hesitates and shuts her mouth. A moment later, she finally speaks again. Her voice is quieter, almost speaking to herself:]
God, I'm so stupid. I should have known it wasn't over. It'll never be over.
